It's like the classic chicken and egg paradox. You can't have a place to live without already having a NIE... But you need a long-term rental contract in order to get a NIE... But most landlords will only give you a short-term rental without one. Make it make sense 😭!

The prominent downside of EU-based immigration to Spain… you do it after you arrive. At least that’s how it works right now.

Yet, there was a post making the rounds on Medium recently where commenters received hundreds of “claps” for spewing vitriol to the effect of, “Why don’t people who move to Spain plan it out better? Are they stupid?”

In actuality they’re concern trolls who hate immigrants in general. Leaving? You’re unpatriotic. Arriving? You’re uncultured filth, so they say. They don’t want to truly understand immigrants or immigration. They want strict cultural and ethnic homogeneity that has no basis in our entire history as humans. But hey, never before in our history did we have bot farms either, until recently.

It's saddening how judgmental some people can be when someone didn't do things the "right way", despite the fact that those people wielding the judgment have no experience doing the thing. I suppose it's because they uplift themselves by bringing others down.

It's like they've never picked up a history book. They just assume that countries and their borders have remained the same since the beginning. Because nothing ever changes, right?
